"Bringing vision to fruition is an art"

Tony van Waveren possesses several qualities with which he ensures that plans become reality, processes run smoothly, teams function optimally and people enjoy their work.

As a consultant, interim or project manager, you have to set a direction, visualise the way to the goal and achieve results on which a group, a department or a company can build. An important quality for this is that you can analyse well and make an adequate translation into practice. Involvement with the people doing the work is essential for this, as is the ability to organise.

Teaming up with people

When analyzing and giving direction, people skills are very important. 'I always think from the strengths of people and make use of their competencies. If those competencies are not on the surface, I bring them to the surface. I also make sure that people feel that the organization functions as required, that they know where they are going and that cooperation runs smoothly. That motivates everyone to personally commit to the task and enthusiastically take responsibility.

By the way, if you want people to stick their necks out and walk the extra mile, they need to feel safe. Therefore, creating safety is also part of my work.

The boss on the field

Tony is a referee in youth professional football, whistled matches at the top of amateur football for many years and is also currently active as an arbitration teacher at the KNVB. 'If, according to the referee, the rules are not followed, he blows the whistle and play is stopped. This provides frameworks, enabling fun and performance. Frameworks and joint enforcement of them are also very important in organisations. "We do it together" is easy to say, but that resolve needs proper guidance. That's what I stand for and so occasionally I jokingly use my referee's whistle at large meetings to make that clear.

Developing people

People are the head and heart of the organization.

For Tony, developing people goes hand-in-hand with developing organizations. This can be done during work or through courses or coaching. “I am always driven to develop myself and take on new challenges. This keeps me moving and creates new opportunities.
Being able to utilize the potential of employees can also be essential for an organization. ”Over time, the exercises of the Avatar Course have become a solid basis for Tony to deal with situations and continue to grow. He also provides the basic course in a network context.
